This work began in 1975 and captures the ethos of early abstract urban street photography in Oakland and San Francisco. I lived in the Hayes Valley near Hayes and Cole off the panhandle of Golden Gate Park. Many of these image are from my time as a resident in SanFrancisco, as a student at The University of San Francisco. I always found images just by walking around the streets of Oakland. I remember across the panhandle there was a home that had a half-emply milk bottle on its front steps. I set up my tripod and pointed my camera. Before I knew it I was being chaced by some guy with long hair yelling obsceneties at me. When I got home I told my roommates who said I was pointing my camera toward The White Panther Party house where we get our food pantry items. I had know idea we got our food there. That house was later burned down. Local lore points toward the San Francisco Police. All images in this collection were orginally captured on 35mm film, either Kodachrome or Ektachrome.
